Gastric cancer

Gastric cancer or Stomach cancer is a cancer cell growth in the lining of the stomach wall.

Symptoms of gastric cancer

In the early stages, stomach cancer can cause the following symptoms:

  •     Nausea

  •     Loos of appetite

  •     Fatigue

And as cancer progresses, it can cause these symptoms:

  •     The presence of blood in the stool or black stool

  •     Feeling bloated after eating, even when eating small amounts of food

  •     Vomiting after meals

  •     Unwanted weight loss

  •     Stomach pain, especially after meals

  •     Weakness and fatigue

Many of these symptoms may be due to conditions other than cancer. However, the earlier gastric cancer is diagnosed, the better the chance of effective treatment.

What causes stomach cancer?

If you have a stomach infection caused by bacteria called Helicobacter pylori, you are more likely to get stomach cancer, which can also cause stomach ulcers.
The following are more likely to get stomach cancer:
In males

  •     People over the age of 50

  •     Family history of gastric cancer

  •     Smoking

  •     Alcohol abuse

  •     Presence of gastric polyp

Nutrition and diet in gastric cancer

Eat more fruits and vegetables    

Eating some fruits and vegetables may be effective in reducing the risk of stomach cancer. People who eat the most fruits and citrus fruits have a higher risk of stomach cancer than those who eat the least. Vitamin C and other antioxidants, vitamin A, flavonoids, and sulfur compounds in vegetable species such as garlic and onions help fight stomach cancer.

  • Replacement of refined grains with whole grains

Getting more whole grain fiber is associated with an almost 30% reduction in the risk of stomach cancer.

  • Avoid very salty foods

High sodium intake increases the risk of gastric cancer by approximately 70%.

  • Maintain a healthy body weight

People who are overweight have a more than 20% risk of developing stomach cancer. Obese people have a more than80% higher risk of stomach cancer than normal-weight people.

  • Get more selenium in your diet

People with higher serum or tissue levels of selenium are about 15% less likely to develop gastric cancer than people with lower levels. Good sources of selenium include nuts, brown rice, and pasta.

  • Consume foods high in protein

People suffering from stomach cancer need extra protein and calories. Drinking extra milk and eating more eggs and low-fat cheese are good ways to get the protein you need. To get more calories, it is recommended to add meat juice and sauce to food.
Increasing the amount of fat in foods, such as adding butter or eating pudding and ice cream, can help prevent a condition called Dumping syndrome, in which or without a palpitation and low blood sugar. The result is a feeling of weakness and a need to sit or lie down.

  • Including foods with iron, calcium, and vitamin D in your diet Sardines, broccoli, milk, eggs, cheese, and bread provide the calcium you need. Vitamin D is found in margarine, butter, fatty fish, and eggs.
    Iron in red meat is more easily absorbed by the body than the iron in fish, soy, egg yolks, green leafy vegetables, and dried fruits.

  •  Purified liquids (clear)
    Such as apple juice, broth, and ginger tea, jelly, and ice cream

  •  Eat high-fiber foods in small meals

  •  Avoid animal products, especially those containing nitrate.
